IL CONCETTO DI IMMERSIONE RIPETITIVA
E’ ben noto che se vogliamo effettuare più immersioni nell’arco di una giornata o per più giorni consecutivi, c’è da tener presente che il nostro organismo non avrà avuto modo di eliminare completamente l’azoto accumulatosi nei tessuti nel corso delle precedenti immersioni quindi, nella programmazione, bisognerà tener conto di questa quantità rimasta (azoto residuo) per evitare di eccedere dai limiti di azoto consentiti per il nostro organismo.
Tuttavia questa quantità (e quindi i nostri calcoli) varia a seconda del tipo di tabella o di computer che utilizziamo, in quanto viene comunemente accettato che il tempo di desaturazione di un tessuto (il tempo cioè che un tessuto impiega a liberarsi da tutto l’azoto residuo) equivale a 6 volte quello di emisaturazione. Ad esempio, un ipotetico tessuto di 30’di emisaturazione necessiterà di 3 ore (180’) per desaturarsi completamente.
Ciò significa che un’immersione è considerata ripetitiva se effettuata entro un arco di tempo di 12 ore secondo le tabelle U.S.Navy (tessuto di riferimento di120’), di 6 ore secondo quelle PADI (60’, mentre per la maggior parte dei computer questo intervallo può variare tra le 24, 48 ore o anche più, considerando tali i tempi necessari affinché l’organismo si desaturi completamente dall’azoto assorbito nell’immersione precedente.
In realtà, studi più recenti hanno man mano evidenziato che probabilmente questa estrapolazione non è poi del tutto precisa, in quanto diversi fattori possono intervenire sul rilascio dell’azoto, ritardandone il tempo di eliminazione, ma i dati che ci forniscono tabelle e computer attualmente si basano sulla precedente teoria.
LE PERPLESSITÀ’
A prima vista sembrerebbe quindi che, in genere, i computer risultino più “conservativi” di entrambe le tabelle. Quando li testiamo in acqua, invece, vediamo che in molti casi essi tendono a concedere un po’ più di tempo nella II immersione e, in proporzione, ancor di più in quelle immediatamente successive.
Queste apparenti contraddizioni non fanno che aumentare le perplessità dei subacquei circa il modo di agire più corretto e sicuro.
In realtà, bisogna tener presente che la suscettibilità alla comparsa dei sintomi di MDD è estremamente variabile poiché i vari individui sono fisicamente molto diversi tra loro.
Tutti i più recenti studi teorici inerenti il calcolo dei tempi e delle profondità di immersione sono stati quindi condotti tenendo necessariamente presenti le esigenze di sicurezza di quegli individui considerati più “esposti” risultando, così, alquanto conservativi.
Ciò viene confermato dai dati raccolti nelle numerose prove pratiche svolte per esaminare cosa accade in seguito a immersioni plurime fatte in un solo giorno ed effettuate proprio allo scopo di valutare la sicurezza e l’attendibilità dei calcoli teorici, in aggiunta all’enorme mole di dati, seppure empirici, forniti dai numerosissimi subacquei che svolgono immersioni multiple in tutto il mondo usando le tabelle o i computer.
L’elevato indice di sicurezza che ne deriva è dovuto soprattutto al fatto che di norma, oltre a seguire le indicazioni sui limiti di profondità/tempo che ci indicano gli strumenti a nostra disposizione, vengono anche rispettate alcune regole di base che tutti i subacquei conoscono e che hanno il precipuo scopo di limitare la formazione di bolle di azoto e di facilitarne la loro eliminazione; esse in particolare prevedono che:
- le immersioni ripetitive devono sempre essere condotte a profondità minori delle precedenti anche se i calcoli delle tabelle, e soprattutto quelli dei computer, ci “dicono” che potremmo andare e permanere a profondità maggiori;
- le immersioni con decompressione andrebbero evitate; tuttavia, nel caso ci si sia spinti oltre i limiti della curva durante una I° immersione, è bene evitare di svolgerne una II° nell’arco della giornata;
- se l’immersione precedente è stata condotta in condizioni particolari quali freddo, eccessivo sforzo fisico, o comunque ai limiti della sicurezza, è bene limitare il numero, la profondità ed il tempo di fondo delle successive;
- di fondamentale importanza viene considerato, in ogni caso, il rispetto della velocità di risalita e l’esecuzione di una sosta di sicurezza al termine di ogni immersione.
